Why is the forward voltage of this diode not 0.7 V?

I am a bit confused with some data from a lab experiment. The circuit is as above. The diode that we used was 1N4001. I assume the forward voltage will be 0.7, but it was seen from the data that it was around 0.5 V. Is this because of the resistor value. The data is as follows:

From the data it seemed that the diode seem to begin conduct when the voltage is 0.5 V. Is this because of the low current from the R1 resistor?

Is there something wrong with the data?
