I have various circuits with a 1N5818 diode and resistor in series. I need to perform a continuity check from end to end. I assumed the multimeter would read approximately the resistor value, however, I generally read 7.96 kilohms greater than my resistor for all my circuits. I was under the assumption that diodes don't have a resistance, but have to guess that the diode does have a resistance of 7.96k. I am not powering the circuit, simply measuring continuity from point A to point B as shown:

My question is whether this is an acceptable way to measure continuity through the path or if there is something else going on.
